Position Summary

This role involves investigating allegations of child abuse and neglect, ensuring the safety and welfare of children and families within the jurisdiction of the Kalispel Tribe. The position requires a thorough understanding of the Kalispel Tribal Law and Order Code, as well as current child welfare legislation and policies regarding abuse, neglect, and mandatory reporting. Responsibilities include conducting interviews, assessing situations involving children and witnesses, preparing for court testimony, and serving as an expert witness in legal proceedings. The role demands the ability to navigate challenging circumstances and make critical decisions that impact the safety of Native children and families, while also being sensitive to cultural and ethnic dynamics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate risks and safety for children, providing family-centered services. Conduct investigations and interviews with children, maintaining comprehensive client data through regular home or school visits. Facilitate access to community resources and services, including transportation assistance when necessary. Advocate for clients effectively.
  • Respond promptly to referrals, conducting investigations and determining appropriate placement options as needed. Collaborate closely with the Tribal Care Licensor during the placement process and associated paperwork.
  • Prepare for and participate in court proceedings as the ICW Social Worker or qualified expert witness. Ensure timely and complete preparation of legal documents for court, including court reports, case plans, and safety plans.
  • Maintain professional communication with state workers, Prosecuting Attorneys, and other Tribal staff, as well as community organizations on behalf of clients.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality and work ethically and professionally with all stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently or as part of a team, prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively.
  • Implement strategies for effective caseload management, ensuring timely updates and organization of client files, including progress notes and legal communications.
  • Utilize a culturally sensitive and strength-based approach in all interactions with clients.
  • Comply with all relevant tribal, federal, and state privacy laws and regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
  • The role requires the ability to bend, stoop, lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Significant amounts of standing or walking are necessary.
