Position Overview

The role of the Senior Electrical Project Engineer at Covestro AG involves spearheading electrical engineering initiatives and overseeing project management for the electrical components of projects within chemical manufacturing environments.

This full-time position offers a comprehensive benefits package, including potential annual bonuses, generous paid time off, a 401K plan with company matching, retirement contributions, tuition reimbursement, parental leave, and medical, dental, and vision insurance, effective from the first day of employment.

Additionally, this position provides a flexible work arrangement, allowing for 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and endorse electrical specifications while creating documentation for the configuration of electrical power distribution systems in collaboration with distributed control systems and programmable logic controllers.
  • Lead teams in analyzing and defining electrical specifications and executing designs for power distribution systems.
  • Engage in preliminary and process safety evaluations, focusing on electrical equipment, interlocking, alarms, and safety systems.
  • Oversee designers, contractors, vendors, and technicians from the conceptual phase through to the construction and commissioning of power distribution systems.
  • Generate all necessary hardware and software documentation to procure, configure, test, install, and maintain process control systems.
  • Collaborate with various engineering disciplines, designers, operations, and maintenance teams to achieve project goals.
  • Manage costs and schedules within the designated area of responsibility.
Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical design and engineering within chemical or industrial facilities; or a Master's degree in electrical engineering with at least 2 years of relevant experience.

Eligibility to apply for and obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within a reasonable timeframe.

Willingness to travel 20-40% of the time as required by job assignments.

Ability to work additional hours as necessary based on job requirements.

Desire to pursue further education (e.g., Master's Degree) and additional certifications or training as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in SKM or ETAP software for load flow, short circuit, and coordination studies.
  • Experience in providing field support and participating in the checkout, commissioning, and startup of process control installations.
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Strong understanding of safety system documentation, automation validation, and quality assurance.
  • Familiarity with process control strategies and systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems, including protective relaying, arc fault and short circuit analysis, load studies, switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, emergency generators, UPS systems, and variable frequency drives.
  • Solid computer hardware and software skills.
  • Awareness of relevant national and international standards in electrical distribution (e.g., NEC, IEC).
  • Proficient in project control skills, including planning, scheduling, cost control, and contract development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills to engage with various levels of management, engineering, design, and internal customers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with team members involved in engineering, design, checkout, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Proven ability to create comprehensive technical and scope documents essential for project execution.
