Position Overview

The role of the Senior Electrical Project Engineer at Covestro AG involves overseeing electrical engineering and project management for the electrical components of projects within chemical manufacturing facilities.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and validate electrical specifications while creating documentation for the configuration of electrical power distribution systems in conjunction with distributed control systems and programmable logic controllers.
  • Guide teams in analyzing and defining electrical requirements and designing power distribution systems.
  • Engage in preliminary and process safety reviews with a focus on electrical equipment, interlocking, alarming, and safety systems.
  • Supervise designers, contractors, vendors, and technicians throughout the entire project lifecycle from conceptual design to construction and commissioning of power distribution systems.
  • Generate comprehensive hardware and software documentation necessary for the procurement, configuration, testing, installation, and maintenance of process control systems.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, designers, operations, and maintenance personnel to achieve project goals.
  • Manage costs and schedules within the assigned area of responsibility.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical design and engineering for chemical or industrial facilities; or a Master's degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Eligibility to apply for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within a reasonable timeframe.
- Willingness to travel 20-40% of the time as required by job assignments.
- Flexibility to work additional hours when necessary.
- Commitment to pursuing advanced education or certifications as job assignments dictate.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in SKM or ETAP software for load flow, short circuit, and coordination studies.
- Experience in providing field support and participating in the checkout, commissioning, and startup of process control installations.


Knowledge & Skills

Strong understanding of safety system documentation, automation validation, and quality assurance. In-depth knowledge of process control strategies and systems, as well as low/medium/high voltage electrical systems, including protective relaying, arc fault and short circuit analysis, load studies, switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, emergency generators, UPS systems, and variable frequency drives.

Excellent computer hardware and software skills, along with familiarity with relevant national and international standards in electrical distribution (e.g., NEC, IEC). Proficient in project control skills such as planning, scheduling, cost control, and contract development.

Ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with various levels of management, engineering, design, and internal customers.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to facilitate cooperation among team members involved in engineering, design, checkout, commissioning, and startup activities. Proven ability to produce comprehensive technical and scope documents necessary for project execution.
