Position Overview

This role involves collaboration with leading heavy industrial and electrical firms, enhancing project engineering expertise in tailored power system protection and control solutions. The position encompasses all stages of project execution: inspection, design, engineering, validation, and commissioning. Engagement with industry standards, delivering customer presentations, managing communications, and preparing proposals are essential components of this role.

Daily Responsibilities

Key Duties: Additional responsibilities may be assigned.

Design and Engineering

Interpret and evaluate customer specifications and drawings, integrating requirements into design processes. Document and escalate to management any areas where compliance is not feasible.

Design bespoke protection and control systems in line with recognized industry standards and best practices.

Utilize computer-aided design software and tools to execute design tasks.

Create drawings and Bill of Materials (BOM) necessary for the production and testing of customized systems.

Stay informed on established power system protection and control standards relevant to heavy industries and electric utilities, both domestically and internationally.

Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, define system architecture, and develop software solutions.

Diagnose and resolve software issues, ensuring system reliability and operational uptime.

Commissioning, Testing, and Service

Develop procedures and guidelines required for testing and validating customized systems and installed products to confirm functionality and performance.

Support customers with field testing, validation, and commissioning, providing both remote and on-site assistance.

Lead or support customer training sessions, both in the field and classroom settings, regarding company products and systems.

Assist customers in troubleshooting field issues, offering problem-solving services.

Project Engagement

Lead or assist in design, engineering, validation, and timely problem resolution.

Establish and adhere to approved project timelines, providing management and customers with relevant status updates and review reports. Conducting design review meetings may be necessary.

Foster and maintain relationships with vendors to stay updated on product offerings and secure necessary technical support and services.

Review system designs for adherence to engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.

Create application manuals, installation guides, testing procedures, and other required documentation.

Plan and organize engineering programs while coordinating project staff to meet project objectives.

Assign project personnel to specific project phases or tasks, such as technical studies, system design, specification preparation, and system validation.

Manage expenditures within the constraints of the project budget.

Prepare interim and final project reports.

Additional Responsibilities

Assist in the creation and preparation of comprehensive technical proposals in response to customer needs and requests. This includes preliminary design, detailed cost estimation, and descriptions of company offerings.

Coordinate activities related to technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and validation issues.

Oversee the integration of engineering/design and system fabrication activities.

Evaluate and approve design modifications, specifications, and drawing releases.

As needed, support Business Development and Sales with customer engagements, presentations, participation in industry events, and training of company personnel and sales representatives.

Comply with ISO 9001 procedures.

Travel domestically and internationally as required to fulfill job responsibilities.

Adhere to all workplace regulations, including but not limited to, the company's safety and attendance policies.

Qualifications for Success

Education and Experience

A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, accompanied by seven years of relevant experience and/or training. A background in power system protection (protective relaying) and control for power generation, transmission, and distribution applications is essential. Proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics and drawings is required.

Equipment and Tools

Utilization of a laptop/PC, smartphone, printer, fax machine, copier, secondary injection test set, oscilloscope, AutoCAD, plotter, calculator, basic manufacturing tools, oscillograph, and power tools (e.g., drills, saws).

Skills and Knowledge

* Understanding of equipment, operations, and services in the electric power protection and control sector.

* Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as OPC, Modbus, DNP3, IEC-61850, and BACnet.

* Familiarity with the design, development, and implementation of Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for industrial power system projects.

* Experience in developing graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for operator control panels, ensuring user-friendliness and intuitive navigation.

* Awareness of industry standards and best practices for cybersecurity and data integrity in industrial protection and control systems.

* Programming capabilities in languages such as VBScript, Python, and SQL for customizing and enhancing HMI/SCADA functionalities.

* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, MS Project, Visio, and Outlook.

* Strong telephone customer service skills and professional etiquette.
