Job Overview:

The Project Safety Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with established safety standards and regulations across various job sites. This position involves a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating potential hazards while fostering a culture of safety within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct regular site visits to ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulations.
  2. Identify and document potential risks, unsafe behaviors, and equipment issues.
  3. Engage in safety discussions during management and pre-construction meetings to address safety requirements.
  4. Facilitate safety training for staff, including new employee orientations and weekly Toolbox Talks.
  5. Assist in incident investigations, documenting findings, and recommending corrective measures.
  6. Lead safety meetings to promote awareness of safety practices and regulatory compliance.
  7. Communicate safety performance, challenges, and improvement opportunities to management.
  8. Generate safety reports, analyze metrics, and propose enhancements for ongoing safety initiatives.
  9. Support the development of new safety programs and policies.
  10. Provide mentorship and guidance to project teams regarding safety practices.
  11. Ensure availability and proper maintenance of first aid and emergency equipment on-site.
  12. Review safety documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  13. Oversee the implementation of drug and alcohol policies in compliance with regulations.
  14. Manage work-related injury cases, ensuring timely medical attention for affected employees.
  15. Act as the primary contact for safety-related inquiries from project stakeholders and regulatory bodies.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in complex highway infrastructure projects.
  • At least 5 years of experience coordinating safety programs for major freeway projects.
  • Experience in design-build construction management for urban freeways.
  • Preferred certifications: OSHA 500/510, NEBOSH, or CHST.
  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Candidates must be able to perform physical tasks, including standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in various environmental conditions. Flexibility in working hours, including potential night shifts, may be required.

Work Environment:

This position requires regular presence at construction sites, where safety and health hazards are present, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment.
