The Industrial Maintenance Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the operational integrity of material handling systems at FedEx. This position requires a deep understanding and expertise in various technical disciplines related to the maintenance and functionality of these systems. The specialist serves as the go-to expert for all elements of the material handling framework and its integration with communication and support systems within the facility. Additionally, the specialist is tasked with developing and executing training programs tailored to site-specific equipment, collaborating with vendors, integrators, and corporate teams to ensure that all technicians are proficient in maintenance and troubleshooting tasks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on material handling systems with minimal supervision, showcasing advanced skills in mechanical power transmission, electrical systems, and PLC controls.
  • Promote a safe working environment by adhering to safety standards, participating in safety meetings, and addressing safety concerns proactively.
  • Develop and follow procedures related to the maintenance of equipment and processes in accordance with FedEx standards.
  • Analyze data from various sources to assess departmental needs and operational requirements.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues within the facility's systems.
  • Interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, manufacturer manuals, and engineering specifications to troubleshoot and repair intricate system faults.
  • Respond to operational calls to identify and rectify issues.
  • Utilize Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software for data entry and retrieval.
  • Assess skill gaps among junior technicians and create effective training programs.
  • Mentor and support lower-level technicians in their development.
  • Develop project scopes and plans for small-scale initiatives, ensuring successful execution through teamwork across multiple shifts.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts as required by business needs.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

PLC/Controls Skills
  • Making necessary edits to PLCs under the guidance of Systems Engineers.
  • Managing uploads and downloads to PLCs.
  • Configuring devices on the PLC network as needed.
  • Updating firmware on PLC components.
Welding and Fabrication Skills
  • Identifying appropriate welding techniques for various conditions.
  • Teaching welding theory and practical applications.
  • Fabricating load-bearing structures according to required standards.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Preferred qualifications include certificates in Industrial Maintenance/Mechatronics or related fields, along with an associate degree.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • A minimum of six years of experience, with at least four years in a similar maintenance role, demonstrating expertise in mechanical, electrical, and PLC systems.
  • Relevant certifications and degrees may be evaluated for qualification purposes.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to follow detailed work orders and management directives.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on sound judgment and analysis.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and creating schematics.
  • Experience with EAM software for data management.
  • Effective communication skills for collaboration with peers and external vendors.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Use of hand and power tools is required.
  • Work may occur in varying temperature conditions.
  • Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, and squatting.
