Industrial Maintenance Specialist

The Industrial Maintenance Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the operational integrity of material handling systems at FedEx. This position requires advanced expertise in various technical disciplines related to the maintenance and functionality of these systems. The specialist is recognized as the go-to expert for all facets of the material handling infrastructure and its integration with associated communication and support systems within the facility. Additionally, this role encompasses the development and execution of training programs tailored to site-specific equipment, ensuring that all technicians are well-equipped to maintain and troubleshoot the systems effectively.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Conducts preventive and predictive maintenance, along with troubleshooting and repairs of material handling systems, demonstrating proficiency in mechanical power transmission, electrical systems, and PLC controls.
- Promotes a safe working environment by adhering to safety standards, participating in safety meetings, and addressing safety concerns proactively.
- Develops and follows procedures related to the maintenance of equipment and processes, in alignment with FedEx standards.
- Analyzes data from various sources to assess departmental needs and operational requirements.
- Diagnoses and resolves complex issues within the facility's systems.
- Interprets technical schematics, manuals, and engineering specifications to troubleshoot and repair intricate system faults.
- Responds to operational calls to identify and rectify issues.
- Utilizes Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software for data entry and retrieval.
- Identifies skill gaps among junior technicians and develops targeted training programs.
- Mentors junior technicians to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Creates project plans for small-scale initiatives, ensuring effective collaboration across shifts.
- May require flexible scheduling based on business needs.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
As an Industrial Maintenance Specialist, you will gain insights into:
Mechanical Systems- Understanding FedEx mechanical design specifications and their application to material handling.
- Designing mechanical systems, such as conveyors, in accordance with established standards.
- Reading and modifying mechanical drawings.
- Familiarity with FedEx electrical design specifications.
- Designing and installing electrical circuits in compliance with industry standards.
- Reading and modifying electrical schematics.
- Making adjustments to PLCs under guidance from Systems Engineers.
- Managing firmware updates and device configurations on the PLC network.
- Understanding appropriate welding techniques for various conditions.
- Training others in welding theory and practice.
- Fabricating structures to meet required standards.
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Preferred qualifications include certificates in Industrial Maintenance/Mechatronics or related fields, along with an associate degree.
- A minimum of six years of experience, with at least four years in a similar maintenance role, demonstrating expertise in mechanical, electrical, and PLC systems.
- Relevant certifications and degrees may be evaluated for their applicability to the role.
- Ability to follow detailed procedures and directives.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on sound judgment and analysis.
- Expertise in troubleshooting and repairing complex mechanical and electrical systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical schematics.
- Effective communication skills for collaboration with peers and vendors.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and other software applications.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Use of hand and power tools may be required.
- Work may occur in varying temperature conditions.
- Physical activity may include standing, walking, bending, and stooping.
