Clinical Microbiology Specialist

Position Summary:
The Clinical Microbiology Specialist is responsible for conducting laboratory analyses on various specimens to deliver precise data in line with established standards and protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adheres strictly to defined testing, reporting, and operational guidelines.
- Ensures the highest quality and accuracy in all tasks performed.
- Utilizes expertise to enhance daily operations, demonstrating a high degree of independent judgment.
- Adjusts to evolving technologies and readily adopts new methodologies post-training.
- Accurately documents all findings and observations.
- Confirms results of urgent tests within specified turnaround times.
- Manages time effectively and offers assistance to colleagues when tasks are completed.
- Exemplifies professionalism and fosters a collaborative work environment.
- Maintains competency in all relevant testing areas.
- Operates with minimal errors and provides follow-up as necessary.
- Conducts quality control (QC) and proficiency testing (PT) as assigned.
- Regularly performs QC in accordance with established protocols.
- Releases test results only when QC values meet acceptable standards.
- Investigates and resolves QC discrepancies independently.
- Participates in the validation and verification of new reagents and instruments as directed.
- Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies, ensuring all are in optimal condition.
- Documents and performs routine maintenance and calibration of instruments.
- Identifies and troubleshoots instrument issues promptly.
- Reports any deviations from standard procedures or equipment malfunctions in a timely manner.
- Maintains a clean and organized workspace.
- Communicates effectively with team members to ensure seamless workflow.
- Trains and oversees the work of other laboratory personnel or trainees.
- Completes necessary training documentation for new hires.
- Assumes supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the regular supervisor.
- Monitors workflow and adjusts staffing as needed to ensure timely results.
- Maintains compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Qualified as a Medical Technologist in accordance with state regulations.
- Experience in standard laboratory practices is essential.
- Previous clinical laboratory experience is preferred.
- Current valid licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist is required.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
