The Department of Veterans Affairs is currently in search of a Board Eligible/Board Certified Psychiatrist to enhance our Substance Abuse Residential Treatment Program (SARRTP) and Outpatient Substance Use Disorder (SUD) clinic.

This role involves performing comprehensive evaluations for psychiatric conditions, substance use disorders, alcohol dependency, social issues, and any related medical concerns within both residential and outpatient environments.

The selected candidate will employ various therapeutic techniques, including psychotropic medications, individual counseling, and group therapy sessions. Treatment approaches will focus on delivering a complete spectrum of clinically appropriate care and rehabilitation services for individuals with SUD, which encompasses:

  • Ambulatory withdrawal management
  • Addressing the psychological and behavioral dimensions of addiction through evidence-based pharmacotherapy and psychosocial strategies.

KEY DETAILS:

Work Schedule:
Primarily from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

There may be future requirements for evening or weekend clinics, but a structured 40-hour work week will always be maintained.

On-Call Duties:
Telephone consultations on weekdays and in-person on weekends, with a frequency of 1-in-12.

Department Composition:
The department consists of approximately 12 psychiatrists, 18 psychologists, 30 social workers, 2 advanced practice nurses, 2 licensed marriage and family therapists, 2 licensed professional counselors, and 15 registered nurses.

Continuing Medical Education (CME):
A stipend of $1,000 per year for reimbursement, along with one week of paid authorized absence (subject to availability).

Office Environment:
Private office setting.

Workload:
Approximately two-thirds of the role will involve residential rehabilitation within a 28-bed unit, while one-third will focus on the outpatient SUD clinic, in addition to administrative and educational responsibilities.

Retirement Benefits:
VA employees are covered under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS), which includes:

3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), similar to a 401(k) plan.

Employees contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period, while the VA contributes 8.8%, totaling an annual contribution of 12.7% of the employee's salary.

Employees under 50 can contribute up to $17,500 annually, with catch-up contributions available for those over 50.

The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and matching contributions based on employee contributions.

For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension, along with health care insurance coverage for retirees.

Disability retirement options are available after five years of service.
