The Department of Veterans Affairs is currently in search of a Board Eligible/Board Certified Psychiatrist to enhance our Substance Abuse Residential Treatment Program (SARRTP) and Outpatient Substance Use Disorder (SUD) clinic.

This role involves performing comprehensive evaluations for psychiatric conditions, substance use disorders, alcohol dependency, social issues, and related medical concerns within both residential and outpatient environments.

The successful candidate will implement various treatment strategies, including psychotropic medications, individual counseling, and group therapy sessions. Treatment Objectives: The aim is to deliver a complete spectrum of clinically appropriate treatment and rehabilitation services for individuals facing SUD, which encompasses ambulatory withdrawal management and addressing the psychological and behavioral dimensions of addiction through evidence-based pharmacotherapy and psychosocial interventions.


ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

Work Schedule:
Primarily 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

There may be future requirements for evening or weekend clinics, but a consistent 40-hour work week will be maintained.

On-Call Duties:
Telephone consultations on weekdays and in-person responsibilities on weekends, with a frequency of 1-in-12.

Department Composition:
The department consists of approximately 12 psychiatrists, 18 psychologists, 30 social workers, 2 advanced practice nurses, 2 licensed marriage and family therapists, 2 licensed professional counselors, and 15 registered nurses.

Continuing Medical Education:
A stipend of $1,000 per year for reimbursement, along with one week of paid authorized absence (subject to availability).

Office Setup:
Private office space provided.

Workload:
The role involves 2/3rd residential rehabilitation in a 28-bed unit and 1/3rd outpatient SUD clinic, in addition to administrative and teaching responsibilities.

Paid Time Off:
26 days of paid annual leave (vacation/personal) with the option to carry over up to 86 days into the next year.

Retirement Benefits:
VA employees are enrolled in the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS), a three-tiered retirement plan comprising Social Security benefits, FERS-FRAE basic benefits (pension), and a Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) similar to a 401(k).

Employees contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period, while the VA contributes 8.8%, totaling a 12% annual contribution.

For those under 50, the contribution limit for the TSP is $17,500, with catch-up contributions available for those over 50, allowing deferral of up to $23,000.

The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution of 1% of salary and matching contributions up to 4%, depending on employee contributions.

Retired military personnel receive these benefits in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension, along with health care insurance coverage for retirees.

Disability retirement options are available after only 5 years of service.
