FLSA Status: Full-Time / Exempt

Work Shift: 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. / Mon. – Fri.

SUMMARY

The role of the Safety Representative is vital within EMCOR Government Services. The selected candidate will support the Director of Loss Control and the Project Team in implementing safety measures, protocols, and procedures aimed at preventing health hazards or injuries resulting from chemical, physical, biological agents, or ergonomic risks. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in conducting inspections, investigating incidents, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with the Director of Loss Control to develop procedures that safeguard employees from potentially dangerous work practices and materials.
  • Manage administrative tasks, including data entry for injury reporting in the safety management information system (SMIS) as per company protocols.
  • Maintain records for the Fleet Program and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Assist in investigating accidents to identify causes and recommend preventive measures.
  • Support the project team with inspections and evaluations of work environments and practices to ensure adherence to safety standards and regulations.
  • Regularly update Health and Safety Plans (HASP), Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), and other safety documentation as directed.
  • Coordinate safety training sessions and ensure all employees possess the necessary certifications for their roles.
  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled safety audits at job sites, enforcing safety protocols and reporting violations.
  • Assist with daily safety checklists for tools and equipment.
  • Help complete incident reports and investigations.
  • Promote a culture of zero accidents across all company operations.
  • Coordinate drug and alcohol testing as required.
  • Ensure compliance with the Safety Program, OSHA regulations, and company policies to provide safe working conditions.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed based on company requirements.
  • Meet background check and fitness for duty standards as per project requirements.
  • Possess a valid state driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule and location within the designated area.

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in health and safety, environmental science, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a safety role within the construction sector.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Plans (HASP) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
  • Completion of OSHA 30-hour construction safety training or equivalent, with ongoing education every four years.
  • Familiarity with construction industry safety regulations and practices.
  • Certifications such as CHST, STS, or OSHA 500 are advantageous.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Experience with project and financial software is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands of this position require regular sitting, seeing, talking, and hearing. The employee must be able to use hands for handling tools and controls, walk, reach, climb, and occasionally lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and depth perception.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role may involve outdoor work in various weather conditions, exposure to mechanical parts, dust, fumes, and other environmental factors. The noise level may range from moderate to loud.
