POSITION TITLE:
Library Aide - Stacks Maintenance, University Libraries
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
This role is situated within the Shelving and Interlibrary Loan (ILL) units of the User Services division at the UW Libraries. These units are based in Coe Library, the primary library on campus, and consist of a combination of full-time staff and student workers.
The Shelving/ILL units operate from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
- Responsibilities include shelving materials and conducting stacks maintenance at Coe Library, as well as assisting with lending processes in the Interlibrary Loan department.
- Ideal candidates should be available to start in the summer semester and continue through the academic year with a work study award.
Starting wage is $12 per hour, increasing to $12.35 per hour after successful completion of the first semester.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform Shelving Duties:
- Organize and shelve library materials, collect items used within the library, and uphold the visual order of the shelving stacks.
- Rearrange materials as necessary.
- Participate in the inventory process of the library collection and assist patrons with directional and location inquiries.
- Locate materials for interlibrary loan requests.
- Digitally scan and deliver materials to patrons.
- Carry out other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
This position is essential for supporting campus patrons and requires the successful candidate to work on-site.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High school diploma or GED
Other Qualifications: Must be eligible and have accepted a work study award through Student Financial Aid for the relevant semester or academic year.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proficient in accurately handling numbers, letters, and decimals.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively with others.
- Capability to maneuver heavy carts of books.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a proactive approach to inquiries.
- Prior experience in library shelving.
- Experience in customer service roles.
