POSITION TITLE:

Library Aide - Stacks Maintenance, University Libraries

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

This role involves working within the Shelving and Interlibrary Loan (ILL) units under the User Services division of the UW Libraries. These units are situated in the main library on campus and consist of a combination of full-time staff and student employees.

Operating hours for Shelving/ILL are Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm.
  • Responsible for shelving materials and maintaining the stacks at Coe Library. Assist with lending processes in the Interlibrary Loan department.
  • Ideal candidates should be available to commence work in the summer semester and continue through the academic year with a work study award.
Compensation:
Starting wage is $12 per hour, increasing to $12.35 per hour upon successful completion of the first semester.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform Shelving Duties:
  • Sort and shelve library materials, collect items used in the library, and uphold the neatness of the shelving stacks.
  • Adjust the placement of materials as necessary.
  • Engage in inventorying the library collection and provide directional assistance to library patrons.
Perform Interlibrary Loan Duties:
  • Gather materials for interlibrary loan requests.
  • Scan and electronically transmit materials.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Carry out other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position is essential for supporting campus patrons and requires the selected candidate to work on-site.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High school diploma or GED

Other Qualifications: Must be eligible and have accepted a work study award through Student Financial Aid for the relevant semester or academic year.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated accuracy in handling numbers, letters, and decimals.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively with others.
  • Capability to maneuver heavy carts of books.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a readiness to seek clarification when needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior experience in library shelving.
  • Experience in customer service.
