General Overview

Highline College is seeking dedicated professionals for a full-time, tenure track faculty role within the Nursing Program. The ideal candidates will possess the following skills and competencies:
  • Employ equity-focused strategies in teaching and learning for a diverse student population.
  • Develop relevant curriculum, instructional methods, and assessments tailored to student needs.
  • Acknowledge and build upon students' existing knowledge.
  • Encourage students to exhibit their understanding through various methods appropriate to the discipline.
Successful applicants should be enthusiastic about teaching Medical/Surgical topics, covering both foundational and advanced subjects. Preference will be given to those with expertise in specialized areas such as pediatrics, geriatrics, critical care, maternal and infant health, and mental health.

Nursing faculty will manage a specified range of contact hours per quarter, provide academic advising, and contribute to college service initiatives.

Faculty Responsibilities

Applicants should be prepared to address the following in their application:
  • Integrate an equity-minded approach to teaching and learning.
  • Deliver a range of core nursing courses, including clinical experiences, which may require evening or weekend availability.
  • Facilitate both on-campus and online nursing instruction that promotes effective learning.
  • Create an inclusive learning environment utilizing diverse teaching strategies to support student success.
  • Develop, monitor, and evaluate student learning outcomes while actively participating in program improvement processes.
  • Guide students in their educational planning.
  • Engage in professional development related to advising.
  • Support and mentor adjunct faculty within the Nursing Program.
  • Stay updated on evidence-based nursing practices and contribute to course design and assessment.
  • Participate in accreditation activities for the Nursing Program.
  • Complete additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • A graduate degree in nursing from an accredited institution or a bachelor's degree in nursing with a graduate degree in a related field by the specified deadline.
  • An active, unencumbered nursing license in the state of Washington.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience in simulation-based teaching and mid-fidelity patient simulation.
  • Familiarity with diverse teaching and assessment methods to enhance student learning.
  • Clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing or community healthcare.
  • A demonstrated commitment to student learning and success.
  • Formal training or certification in simulation.
  • Willingness to take on leadership roles in educational initiatives.
  • Proficiency in languages other than English.
