Job Summary

Shoreline Community College is seeking a qualified Part-Time Faculty member to teach and supervise students in the Phlebotomy program. Responsibilities
  • Teach Phlebotomy Program courses online and in-person lectures/labs
  • Supervise students in practicum rotations
  • Review and update curriculum for Medical Lab Technology and Phlebotomy courses
Qualifications
  • Educational qualifications related to Phlebotomist Certification through the Washington State Department of Health
  • AA degree, AAS degree, or Bachelor's degree
  • Experience teaching/training adults in a Higher Education or other setting
  • Three years of related professional experience in a clinical laboratory or phlebotomy
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Microsoft Office programs, learning management systems and other appropriate instructional technology
  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
  • Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of Phlebotomy
  • Experience with or willingness to gain experience with teaching and developing coursework online
  • Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College
  • Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilities
  • Developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently
  • Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
Conditions of Employment

The College is currently in mixed (both in-person and online) operations, with the option for some assignments to be completed in an online environment based on program or area needs. When remote (online) instruction is available, faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For on-campus in-person instruction, work is usually performed in a classroom/office space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Faculty typically use computers and media equipment in the work environment.

Benefits

Part-time faculty members become eligible for benefits at the beginning of the second consecutive quarter of half time or more employment at one or more Washington state institutions of higher education. Spring and fall quarters are considered consecutive quarters for benefits eligibility. Half time is determined based on each institution's definition of full time. A part-time faculty member must qualify each quarter they teach to maintain eligibility. Once eligible, part-time faculty will be notified of their benefit and retirement options.
