Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Disaster Assistance Spec Lead to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our disaster response team, you will play a critical role in assisting disaster victims with expenses or urgent needs by reviewing cases for corrections, additional information, or adjustments for grants under the ONA program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Train staff and assign work to ensure successful execution and adherence to objectives.
  • Determine, adjust, and process eligibility for IHP-ONA grants, particularly in complex cases.
  • Review and process requests for reconsideration of eligibility decisions, ensuring that the correct eligibility levels are applied.
  • Represent Health and Human Services at the State Emergency Operations Center, Disaster Recovery Centers, and town hall meetings related to disasters.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to provide, exchange, and verify information, respond to inquiries, address concerns, and resolve issues or complaints.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of overall program, including federal and state guidelines, regulations, programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal, other state government, and private non-profit disaster recovery assistance agencies and programs.
  • Ability to apply guidelines, regulations, and policies to a variety of cases.
  • Ability to work with the public, communicate orally and in writing, and navigate and interpret information on the Federal National Emergency Management Information System (NEMIS).
Working Conditions:

This is a telework-eligible position after a successful 30-day probationary/training period and is eligible for full State of Texas benefits.
