About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join our team as an Interviewer for an ongoing community health project. The successful candidate will contribute to the field activities of the project, which aims to measure the prevalence of HIV, health and social issues, health-related behaviors, and access to services among people who use drugs in the Baltimore metro region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit and enroll research participants for the project.
  • Conduct data collection activities, including participant screening, obtaining informed consent, and interviewing using computerized interviewing tools.
  • Provide HIV counseling and testing services, as well as referrals to care.
  • Work collaboratively with the project team to ensure the successful completion of project activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as public health, sociology, or psychology.
  • Some related experience, preferably in research or data collection activities.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with research or data collection activities, preferably in a community health setting.
  • Maryland HIV pre- and post-test counseling certification.
  • Experience with computers and data collection technologies.
  • Prior experience working with study populations and/or other diverse populations.
  • Able to occasionally work flexible hours.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and protocol adherence, with flexibility to respond to multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience working with study populations and/or other marginalized and diverse populations.
  • Familiarity with or interest in harm reduction and public health approaches to drug use and related risk reduction.
  • Understanding of data collection processes, strong organizational skills, and ability to interact with a variety of people.
  • Experience recruiting and interviewing study participants.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and electronic communications.
  • Comfortable with data entry and able to adapt to new software with appropriate training.
