POSITION SUMMARY: This role involves conducting inspections of both new and existing residential and commercial buildings, including plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems, to ensure adherence to local and state regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts inspections of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in accordance with city codes and regulations for residential and commercial projects.
  • Performs routine assessments of new and existing buildings to verify safety and compliance with applicable codes.
  • Keeps accurate records of inspections and related documentation.
  • Drafts correspondence requesting additional information or modifications to ensure compliance with code requirements.
  • Researches building codes, investigates incidents, and maintains comprehensive records.
  • Provides information and assistance to citizens, contractors, builders, architects, and engineers regarding building ordinance compliance and addresses concerns effectively.
  • Collaborates with contractors, builders, architects, and engineers to resolve discrepancies in plans and codes, facilitating approved solutions.
  • This position is classified as Critical Personnel during emergencies and may require the performance of duties outside the usual scope of work.
  • Employees in this role are recognized as Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers, as defined by relevant authorities.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; AND three (3) years of experience in construction; OR a combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills.

Knowledge Required:

  • Understanding of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with International Building, Residential, and Mechanical codes.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical codes.
  • General construction practices and their application to various structures.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Proficiency in using a personal computer and standard software applications.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Capability to read and interpret blueprints and construction plans.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:

  • Valid State driver's license.
  • Certification in International Building Code or International Residential Code is preferred but must be obtained within one (1) year of employment.
  • Preferred certifications include State Plumber Inspector License and ICC Mechanical and Electrical Certifications.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The role primarily involves outdoor fieldwork in various weather conditions, with some indoor administrative tasks. The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and may encounter environmental factors such as dust, pollen, and temperature variations. Exposure to construction site hazards and unsafe structures may occur, necessitating adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment.
