Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Radiology Supervisor, performs a variety of MRI procedures and departmental support functions. This role requires a high level of technical expertise and attention to detail to ensure accurate and high-quality imaging results.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Performs MRI examinations of the brain, body, spine, and extremities on patients of all ages, adjusting scanning parameters for different patient body habitus.
  2. Selects and modifies technical factors to enhance images, utilizing flare and SAT imaging techniques.
  3. Determines appropriate equipment for scanning, including body coils.
  4. Identifies gross pathology in the human body and adjusts T1 and T2 scanning parameters to provide pertinent information for interpretation.
  5. Adjusts parameters of equipment to minimize risk factors to self and patient.
  6. Effectively performs Diffusion studies, MR Angiograms, reformats, and MIP imaging.
  7. Performs specialized exams, including MRA runoffs and post arthrogram work-ups.
  8. Effectively uses magnetic resonance and adjusts parameters to minimize exposure to patient and self.
  9. Follows established protocols and utilizes scanning techniques, including window and contrast levels, scanning time sequences, scanning delays, scanning thickness, FOV, scout images, reformatting, image reconstruct, and 3-D image reconstruct.
  10. Photographs, archives, and retrieves images.
  11. Is certified to start and remove IV lines for contrast studies per established departmental policy and procedure.
  12. Identifies and responds to IV contrast reactions, including calling emergency personnel.
  13. Proficient in the use of an IV Contrast Power Injector.
  14. Identifies each patient, reviews each patient's requisition and previous studies for consistency, and records pertinent data on MRI requisition at all times.
  15. Responsible for performing comprehensive screening of patients and other individuals before allowing them to enter the MR system room.
  16. Effectively explains, knows, and informs anyone entering the MR system room of the danger associated with implants and devices, including pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), and loose objects.
  17. Reviews each examination for technical accuracy, presents completed examination to radiologist, and communicates pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure.
  18. Identifies anatomical orientation on all required images and ensures proper film identification on all images.
  19. Maintains daily patient MRI log documenting correctly and accurately patient information to ensure the quality of patient care.
  20. Demonstrates ability to organize patient care and set priorities by providing critical care first and by implementing the physician's orders.
  21. Performs proper computer skills and shows working knowledge of patient orders, status changes, patient charges, and profiles.
Basic Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Minimum one (1) year experience to include on-the-job training and internships as an MRI technologist or registry eligible ARRT advanced certification in MRI required.
  • However, for new hires in classification, certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire with one (1) year recent experience as Radiologic technologist with ARRT required.

Education:

  • Current in ARRT OR ARMRIT CEU requirements required.
  • Venipuncture competency check off required within three (3) months of hire.
  • Graduate of an accredited radiology technology program OR MRI Accredited Certificate Program required.
  • High School Diploma OR General Education Development (GED) required.

License, Certification, Registration:

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Magnetic Resonance Imaging within 12 months of hire OR American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists Certificate.
  • Radiologic Technologist Certification.
  • Basic Life Support.
Additional Requirements:

Required to stand, push, pull, and lift patients.

Must be able to adjust routine to accommodate patient or department without affecting departmental flow.

May be required to lift objects heavier than fifty (50) pounds, perform difficult manipulative skills, and hand-eye coordination skills, walk, and stand for prolonged periods, see objects closely, and hear normal sounds with some background noises.

Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption and attend to tasks for 20 to 45 minutes at a time.

Must have good oral and written communication skills.

Knowledge of customer-focused service requirements of the organization.

Ability to communicate pleasantly and effectively with members and coworkers.

Proficiency in applicable computer software.
