General Overview:


The primary objective of this role is to deliver administrative assistance to the deputies, investigators, and senior personnel of the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office, facilitating the preparation of reports, interactions with the community, and internal communications.

Responsibilities may differ based on the department assigned.

This position operates under close supervision following established protocols.

Key Responsibilities:
The tasks outlined below represent the majority of the duties performed in this role. Management may assign additional responsibilities related to the nature of the work as required.

  • Provides assistance to visitors by evaluating their inquiries and directing them to the appropriate department.
  • Aids individuals contacting the Sheriff's Office by either directly assisting them or routing their calls to the relevant investigator or officer.
  • Distributes reports to the public as necessary.
  • Conducts data entry tasks, including entering warrants in-house and NCIC, logging stolen property in NCIC, and inputting incident reports for transmission to SLED.
  • Compiles and monitors crime statistics based on cases assigned to investigators.
  • Retrieves criminal records as needed.
  • Supports front desk operations as required.
  • Tracks and notifies officers of all court appearances related to their assigned cases.
  • Completes daily attendance records.
  • Maintains an inventory of office supplies and orders additional items as necessary.
  • Assists with clerical functions at the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office main office and Central Investigations Division, as well as all Sheriff's Office facilities as needed.
  • Collects all fees for services and enters them into the computer system.
  • Counts, verifies, documents, and processes bank deposits.
  • Uploads traffic citations to the appropriate database.
  • Gathers citation statistics to generate monthly reports for funding purposes.
  • Inputs warrants into relevant databases.
  • Removes warrants from relevant databases.
  • Assists in submitting confidential information and reports to various requesting agencies.
  • Performs various support activities for the Sheriff's department, such as conducting criminal background checks and ordering office supplies.
  • Provides flexible and temporary support to various departments within the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office.
  • Covers for staff absences and assists during peak periods.
  • Undertakes any other duties as required.
  • Temporarily fills in for positions and picks up shifts as needed.
  • Works in different areas or locations as necessary.
  • Performs other duties and related tasks as instructed and assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or GED or equivalent is required.
  • Six (6) months of clerical or office experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

  • NCIC Certification
  • Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver's License
  • Must be a Registered South Carolina.

Reasoning/Math/Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive situations.
