Job Title: Flight Software Systems Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Flight Software Systems Engineer to join our team in Westminster, CA or San Jose, CA. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and applying core systems engineering principles to mission development, ensuring full traceability through mission and systems requirements, and connecting test strategy and execution to mission and systems requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and apply core systems engineering principles to mission development
  • Ensure full traceability through mission and systems requirements
  • Connect test strategy and execution to mission and systems requirements
  • Lead teams through the full lifecycle of solutions
  • Support product and mission strategies
  • Oversee all system integration and dependencies
  • Design, develop, validate, document, and deliver cost-effective embedded determination and controls software
  • Strong system engineering experience with experience delivering elegant, user-friendly implementations
  • Accountable for flight control requirements sell-off to stakeholders and customers
  • Develop mission capability, build business cases, support CTO, strategy, and executive sponsors as directed
  • Generate appropriate engineering artifacts at the appropriate level for consumption by stakeholders and/or development team members
  • Engage actively in all program risk management activities
  • Lead and contribute to senior-level engineering reviews as needed
  • Strong communication and presentation skills and the ability to successfully bring together diverse teams made up of multiple engineering and business disciplines
  • Create and drive a culture of teamwork, ownership, transparency, accountability, and crisp execution to goals
  • Lead and coach matrixed, cross-functional teams of subject matter experts, engineers, and emerging leaders
  • Guide the existing and any new processes necessary to hit business objectives while streamlining and/or eliminating non-critical work
  • Work collaboratively with other senior engineering leaders to transform engineering development process to enable efficient development of large-scale complex systems
  • Provide technical direction to Systems and Software Engineering teams to identify high-potential engineers and develop a talent growth strategy within the technical team
  • Partner with Maxar Space product and mission architecture teams to ensure direct linkage to product and technical strategies
  • Travel as necessary to ensure team cohesion and program and product success
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering discipline or related field plus a minimum of 8 years of related professional experience
  • Flight Software Development Experience (methodologies, best practices)
  • Understanding of systems/software engineering development lifecycle process for large-scale, complex space systems
  • Experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering for Software, experience and applications of architecture and design patterns (GoF)
  • Experience developing 4+1 architecture view models for software
  • Applicants must have broad leadership and deep engineering, manufacturing, software, and testing background experience
  • Applicant must have familiarity with aerospace industry best practices, with the demonstrated ability to select and apply commercial or government standards as needed or directed
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite including Teams, Project, and Visio
  • Familiarity with Jira and GitLab
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability and willingness to obtain up to a TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance
  • Matlab and Simulink Experience
  • Experience with all phases of spacecraft integration and test-related activities ranging from proposal development through on-orbit commissioning operations
  • 7+ years' experience as a people manager, directly or indirectly
  • Experience leading technical execution on challenged programs
  • Demonstrated ability to grow and develop people and work collaboratively with peers to establish new processes and improve existing processes
  • Business Experience: Experience operating in a variety of dynamic situations, including startups, turnarounds, realignments, and high growth
  • Experience leading integrated and cross-functional technology and business teams
  • Ability to analyze, prioritize, and resolve issues independently
  • Ability to partner effectively with both highly technical and non-technical team members and integrate that expertise into executable plans
  • Creative problem solver with sound judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to facilitate swift, informed decision making at all levels of the business and technical teams
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and executive communication skills

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate's unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is $119,000.00 to $199,000.00 annually. Additionally, this position is incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results achieved; the specific incentive plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
