Our organization operates seven PreK-12 charter schools and community sports-based youth development initiatives. Position Overview

DREAM is seeking a Director of Institutional Giving to enhance our advancement efforts. This pivotal role, reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, will focus on formulating and executing strategies to secure funding from institutional sources, including corporations, foundations, and government entities. The Director will lead a team of two Managers and oversee a portfolio aimed at achieving a $6 million funding target. This position offers a unique opportunity to be a key player in a team that raises over $20 million each year to support DREAM's holistic educational model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Design and implement revenue generation strategies for the institutional giving program, prioritizing relationship-building with corporate, foundation, and government partners.
    • Collaborate with senior leadership to establish and track goals, metrics, and key performance indicators for institutional funding.
    • Act as the primary expert on programmatic and strategic initiatives within the Advancement team, fostering strong collaborations across DREAM's leadership.
    • Stay informed on fundraising trends and philanthropic developments, providing strategic recommendations to the Chief Advancement Officer.
    • Promote a culture of philanthropy among staff, volunteers, and donors.
    • Assist senior leadership and the Board of Directors with development-related initiatives as necessary.
  • Portfolio Management
    • Oversee the institutional foundations portfolio, managing donor relationships, grant proposals, renewals, and compliance with grant requirements.
    • Lead efforts to identify and cultivate new donor prospects.
    • Maintain strong relationships with current and potential funders, preparing leadership for donor engagements.
    • Ensure effective stewardship of multiyear gifts, identifying opportunities for renewal and enhancement.
    • Develop relationships with foundation program officers to facilitate institutional partnerships.
  • Team Management and Collaboration
    • Guide and mentor the Manager of Institutional Giving and Senior Manager of Institutional Giving, aligning their efforts with organizational objectives.
    • Participate in the Advancement Leadership team to drive major gifts strategy and foster a collaborative team environment.
    • Work closely with the Finance team to ensure accurate budgeting and reporting for grants.
    • Collaborate with Data, Communications, and Program teams to gather necessary information for proposals and reports.
    • Represent DREAM professionally with external partners, including government agencies and foundations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in institutional fundraising with a successful track record of securing significant gifts.
  • In-depth knowledge of the New York City philanthropic landscape, particularly in education or youth development.
  • Proven experience in managing and mentoring staff, with the ability to inspire a team.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the capability to craft compelling proposals and reports.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in CRM systems for managing donor information.

Working Conditions

  • This position is part of the Advancement team, which operates on a hybrid schedule of in-office and remote work.
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required for donor events.
