Position Overview

DREAM is seeking a Director of Institutional Giving to lead our advancement initiatives. Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, this pivotal role will focus on crafting and executing strategies to secure funding from institutional sources, including corporations, foundations, and government entities. The Director will manage a team of two Managers and oversee a donor portfolio aimed at achieving a $6 million funding goal. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a team that raises over $20 million annually to support our innovative educational model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Design and implement revenue generation strategies for institutional giving, prioritizing relationship building with corporate, foundation, and government partners.
    • Collaborate with senior leadership to establish and track goals and performance metrics for institutional fundraising.
    • Act as the subject matter expert on strategic initiatives, fostering strong partnerships across the organization.
    • Stay informed on fundraising trends and philanthropic developments, advising leadership on potential actions.
    • Promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.
  • Portfolio Management
    • Oversee the institutional donor portfolio, managing grant proposals, renewals, and compliance with funding requirements.
    • Lead efforts to identify and engage new donors to expand the funding pipeline.
    • Maintain strong relationships with current and prospective funders, preparing leadership for engagements.
    • Ensure effective stewardship of multiyear gifts, identifying opportunities for renewal and enhancement.
  • Team Management and Collaboration
    • Supervise and mentor the Institutional Giving Managers, aligning their work with organizational objectives.
    • Participate in the Advancement Leadership team to develop strategies for major gifts.
    • Coordinate with the Finance team for accurate budgeting and reporting on grants.
    • Work with cross-functional teams to gather data for proposals and reports, ensuring clarity and consistency.
    • Represent DREAM in interactions with external partners, maintaining a professional demeanor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in institutional fundraising with a successful track record.
  • In-depth knowledge of the philanthropic landscape in New York City, particularly in education and youth development.
  • Proven experience in team leadership and staff development.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling proposals and reports.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, with familiarity in CRM systems like Salesforce.

Work Environment

  • This role is part of the Advancement team, which currently operates with a hybrid model of in-office and remote work.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for donor events.
