Position Overview

A Senior Controls and Automation Engineer is sought for a prominent energy company specializing in natural gas and power solutions. This role involves overseeing process control systems, communication frameworks, and information technologies to guarantee the secure and efficient distribution of natural gas. The engineer will design and develop hardware and software automation and control systems for Gas Control, Operations Dispatch, and various field locations, including processing plants and gate stations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess and implement advanced technologies and system architectures to enhance the cyber security and reliability of the Industrial Control Systems (ICS) environment, including the evaluation, testing, and development of threat prevention strategies.
  • Utilize extensive knowledge of process control systems and communication infrastructures to identify system vulnerabilities within the ICS framework, assess associated risks, and apply appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain a precise software and firmware management database for the ICS environment to reduce cyber risks.
  • Identify necessary software and firmware updates through rigorous testing and documentation.
  • Develop, validate, and document protocols for testing and applying software and firmware updates.
  • Analyze ICS networks to identify cyber risks and propose solutions to enhance security measures.
  • Troubleshoot ICS networks to resolve communication issues effectively.
  • Address operational challenges within SCADA applications and PLC programs.
  • Evaluate cyber security vulnerabilities in SCADA applications, PLCs, and RTUs.
  • Program PLCs and RTUs using industry-specific programming languages to automate Gate Station control and monitor flow, pressure, temperature, and odorization of natural gas, as well as oversee plant operations including compressors, boilers, pumps, and valves.
  • Develop SCADA applications and HMIs using vendor-specific programming languages to create user-friendly interfaces for the gas distribution system.
Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship or Green Card is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with industrial control systems is essential.
  • In-depth knowledge of SCADA applications, PLC hardware, and PLC programming is mandatory.
  • Strong understanding of process control and measurement theory, as well as electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical instrumentation systems is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex Industrial Control Systems (ICS) equipment and processes is necessary.
  • Proven capability to communicate operational requirements and functionalities of ICS to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with control systems in natural gas and propane processing, storage, and handling facilities is preferred.
  • Experience with network technologies, cyber security, Windows Servers, and relational databases is advantageous.
  • Availability to participate in an on-call rotation is required.

Software utilized includes: Allen-Bradley PLCs, AB PanelView Plus HMI, Cisco, RUGGEDCOM by Siemens, Nozomi Networks, ClearSCADA/Geo SCADA from Schneider Electric.
