The Role

The Accounting Operations Manager plays a crucial role within the accounting department at SPAN. Reporting directly to the VP, Controller, this individual will effectively lead a small team of one or two staff members. The Accounting Operations Manager will exhibit a strategic approach and uphold fiduciary responsibilities regarding the company’s assets and interests. Essential skills for this role include extensive knowledge of US GAAP, excellent communication abilities, teamwork, confidentiality, attention to detail, and unwavering integrity.
About You

Required Qualifications
  • Proven experience and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and accrual accounting
  • A minimum of five years of direct experience in revenue management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger entries, and reconciliations
  • Strong proficiency in ASC 606, ASC 718, and ASC 350
  • Experience managing the accounting close process, including expectations, communications, and deadlines
  • Expertise in preparing flux analysis and financial statements
  • Experience working with external audit firms
  • Recent proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly advanced Excel skills
  • Proficiency in NetSuite; familiarity with FloQast, Blackline, Ramp, and Boomi is advantageous
  • Experience with Salesforce is a plus
  • Knowledge of federal/state income and sales tax regulations is beneficial
  • High accuracy and attention to detail

Bonus Qualifications
  • Experience in drafting technical accounting analyses and memoranda is preferred
  • Background in manufacturing or electrification industries is a plus
  • Public accounting experience is desirable
  • CPA certification is preferred
Responsibilities, Duties, and Expectations:
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close entries and reconciliations for various general ledger accounts, including revenue, payroll, stock-based compensation, prepaids, investments, debt, equity securities, fixed assets, and capitalized software.
  • Develop and implement accounting procedures and best practices to enhance the quality and efficiency of closing activities
  • Review daily treasury operations
  • Analyze monthly financial statements and flux reports
  • Assist in publishing and reporting financial results to executive leadership and broader management
  • Support investor and compliance reporting
  • Assist with income tax and sales tax filings and reporting
  • Manage the accounting close process
  • Mentor and provide developmental opportunities for direct reports
  • Support sales and sales operations teams with customer credits, billings, and new program implementations as necessary
  • Act as the primary contact for annual financial statement and bank audit processes
