Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage in scientific tasks related to the research, design, and enhancement of laboratory and field initiatives under the guidance of seasoned professionals.
  • Assist in gathering and analyzing data to inform project design and operational requirements. Gain proficiency in conducting tracer gas concentration assessments using flame ionization detection and velocity and turbulence measurements through laser Doppler velocimetry in the EPA meteorological wind tunnel.
  • Contribute to experimental setups, measurement scheme designs, model construction, instrument upkeep, quality assurance, and the preparation of standard operating procedures, as well as conducting wind tunnel measurements and compiling monthly data and final reports under expert supervision.
  • Learn to manage equipment maintenance schedules, procure supplies, perform routine maintenance such as calibration and cleaning, coordinate vendor services, and maintain calibration and usage logs.
  • Support the laboratory team with repairs, maintenance, and daily calibrations of wind tunnel equipment.
  • Execute additional technical tasks as required.
Data Management Duties:
  • Download data to personal computers.
  • Conduct preliminary data validation using Excel templates and R software.
  • Prepare summary reports for data reviews.
  • Handle raw data files effectively.
  • Complete data validation spreadsheets.
Communication Responsibilities:
  • Manage raw data file downloads.
  • Contribute to standard operating procedures, monthly, and final reports.
  • Finalize data validation spreadsheets.
  • Upload processed data files for client evaluation.
  • Generate data summary reports.
  • Transcribe laboratory and field notes.

Qualifications Required:

This role supports the Research Laboratory Support contract with the US Environmental Protection Agency. Essential qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution in a relevant technical field, with 0-2 years of experience.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols, record-keeping, and meeting project deadlines is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in statistical software such as R and Python.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office for data management, analysis, and technical report writing.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with gas sensors or aerosol measurement instruments.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Physical Requirements:
  • Lifting: 25 lbs - 10%
  • Climbing: Stairs and ladders - 10%
  • Crawling - 10%
  • Special Equipment: Respirator, Safety Shoes, Laser Safety Glasses - 10% each.
Work Environment:

75% indoors, 25% outdoors. Transportation between facilities is required.

Equipment Utilized:

Office equipment, hand tools, aerosol/gas generators, environmental monitors, and various measurement systems.

Attendance:

Regular attendance is essential, Monday through Friday, first shift.

Other Essential Functions:

Successful completion of background and drug tests is mandatory. US Citizenship is required.
