Job Title: Supportive Service Specialist

Join the YMCA of Newark and Vicinity team as a Supportive Service Specialist, where you will play a vital role in providing essential services to individuals and families in need.

Job Summary:

The Supportive Service Specialist will be responsible for assisting clients with various aspects of their social functioning, including assessment, counseling, and referrals to social agencies. This role requires strong administrative and record maintenance skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of client information into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and Tollo database.
  • Conduct client assessments within 72 hours of intake.
  • Evaluate client needs and make referrals to appropriate social agencies.
  • Counsel clients on public assistance programs and related services.
  • Assist supervisor in resolving complex client social issues.
  • Link clients to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability (SSD) programs.
  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions to program clients.
  • Maintain liaison with community and civic organizations and social agencies.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating staff and on-call phone lists.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local licensing requirements.
  • Prepare and submit required statistical reports.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Services or related field, or minimum 5 years of experience in a Social Service agency.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of social work, social and economic problems, and state and local resource agencies.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and data entry.
  • Strong administrative and record maintenance skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies.
