Job Title: Senior Planning Strategist, Public Lands

Are you a skilled planning professional looking for a challenging role in a dynamic organization? We are seeking a Senior Planning Strategist to join our Public Lands team in Salt Lake City.

About the Role:

This is a unique opportunity to work on a wide range of planning projects, from site planning to capital project implementation. As a Senior Planning Strategist, you will be responsible for planning for the expenditure of capital funding, managing and advising on site and master planning projects, and developing standards and processes for internal teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan for the expenditure of capital funding, including impact fees, general funds, and other sources.
  • Manage and advise on site and master planning projects, including site planning, design, and public engagement.
  • Develop and update standards and processes for internal teams, including the Capital Facilities Plan and Impact Fee Facilities Plan.
  • Research and review information on potential or current issues and meet with managers, staff, and others to address and/or resolve the same.
  • Prepare staff reports that review policy implications and identify ties to policy directions/statements previously made by the Mayor and/or the City Council.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Political Science, Geography, Environmental Studies, Landscape Architecture, Parks, Recreation & Tourism, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • At least six years of progressively responsible experience in city planning, policy, project management, and/or financial or asset management, with an emphasis on project and/or program management.
  • Strong understanding of budgeting, municipal finance, and capital planning.
  • Strong communication and public presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and interdependently with initiative, reliability, and appreciation of others' contributions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Political Science, Geography, Environmental Studies, Landscape Architecture, Parks, Recreation & Tourism, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • Experience organizing and managing diverse teams.
  • Experience working in municipal or other local government contexts.
  • Experience planning, designing, and constructing (or managing construction of) public infrastructure projects.
