Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled MRI Specialist to join our team at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. As an MRI Specialist, you will be responsible for performing medically prescribed MRI procedures of designated anatomical areas, under the general direction of the radiologist and supervisor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform MRI procedures using hospital and radiology information systems, adhering to HIPAA regulations.
  • Access patient information, including appointment times, exam types, and patient reports, using the HIS/RIS system.
  • Document begin, complete, and departure times in the RIS, following departmental policy.
  • Utilize film library functions and maintain knowledge of the HIS system.
  • Schedule exams in RIS from the order entry queue and modify exams when necessary.
  • Maintain department log books, record machine performance data, and adhere to established departmental procedures.
  • Administer IV contrast media, explain procedures to patients, and engage radiologists and/or LIP as appropriate.
  • Ensure contrast media questionnaires are completed by patients, assess intravenous lines, and attach injector tubing.
  • Load and program contrast media power injectors, assign injection rates, and monitor patients for signs of contrast media reaction or extravasation.
  • Perform visual and manual quality control checks of MRI equipment, use imaging and peripheral equipment safely, and report malfunctions.
  • Implement patient procedures independently, following departmental protocols and standards.
  • Explain procedures to patients, obtain consent when necessary, and provide patient comfort before, during, and after procedures.
  • Position patients and MRI equipment appropriately, use identifying markers, and review patient information sheets.
  • Solve problems during patient examinations, alter examinations to maximize information, and confer with other technologists.
  • Generate high-quality images, transmit and/or segment for transmission to PACS, and maintain cleanliness of radiographic areas.
  • Recognize medical emergencies, notify nurses, PAs, and/or MDs immediately, and assess patient information and status to plan appropriate procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Intravenous Contrast Administration Certification in New York State
  • ARRT Certification/Registration - MRI
  • BLS Certification
