ABOUT THE POSITION


The Visual Arts Educator is primarily responsible for executing Charter Champions' effective curriculum framework in art education. This involves delivering evidence-based instructional methods and culturally relevant strategies that promote high achievement, individualized learning, empowerment, and nurturing relationships that inspire a passion for learning and instill hope.

Charter Champions seeks educators who are committed to enhancing curriculum, instruction, and relationships through teamwork and collaboration.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Foster Strong Relationships: Build meaningful, transformative relationships essential for middle school students, colleagues, and families to learn collaboratively through authentic and culturally responsive practices.
  • Cultural Leadership: Creatively establish and uphold positive norms and expectations for classroom and school dynamics, holding yourself and others accountable to the highest standards of kindness, excellence, and constructive communication.
  • Empower Learning: Take ownership of your learning and that of your students, modeling empowerment and a growth mindset, even amidst challenges. Teach strategies to overcome learning barriers.
  • Execution and Analysis: Move beyond planning to consistently execute and engage in continuous improvement, analyzing daily results to ensure genuine learning and progress.
  • Prioritize Safety: Ensure the physical safety of yourself, students, colleagues, and families at all times, seeking assistance as necessary for mental and physical well-being.
  • Adaptability and Humility: Embrace feedback and demonstrate flexibility in your approach to teaching and learning.

EXPECTATIONS OF EXCELLENCE
  • Engage fully in collaborative instructional planning and school-wide activities.
  • Deliver culturally relevant instruction while consistently collecting evidence of student learning.
  • Provide clear directions for all procedures and facilitate focused, guided, and independent learning experiences.
  • Reinforce positive student behaviors to uphold expectations and learning methods.
  • Maintain consistent accountability and incentives with clarity and equity.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with a desire to contribute to a start-up team.
  • A willingness to learn and lead through constructive feedback.
  • Mastery and enthusiasm for the subject matter, with the ability to teach across disciplines.
  • A BA/BS from an accredited institution is required; an MA/M.Ed is highly preferred.
  • Experience working with 10 to 14-year-olds in an urban educational setting is highly desired.
  • Relevant teaching certification is preferred.

TECHNICAL SKILLS
  • Proficient in Google productivity tools.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Fluency in English is required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Basic skills such as calculating percentages and interpreting bar graphs are required.

REASONING ABILITY
  • Strong skills in problem definition, data collection, conclusion drawing, and abstract reasoning.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to regularly stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and communicate effectively; occasionally lift/move up to 15 pounds.
