Position Summary

The Nursing Care Assistant I performs a variety of non-professional nursing duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Responsibilities include assisting with patient positioning, changing non-sterile dressings, and recording vital information. The role involves preparing patients and equipment for examinations, providing personal care, and assisting with daily living activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient care activities such as feeding, bathing, and dressing.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, intake and output, and report any changes in patient conditions.
  • Support patients with mobility and personal hygiene needs.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned areas, ensuring supplies are stocked.
  • Participate in educational activities and maintain required skills validation.
  • Follow safety protocols and utilize personal protective equipment as necessary.

Qualifications

Education: Completion of a Level I Nurse Aide education program approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing or successful completion of the NC-approved Nurse Aide I competency test. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience: Not applicable.

Licensure/Certification: Must be listed as a Nursing Assistant I (NA I) with the Division of Facility Services, with no substantiated findings of abuse or neglect. BCLS certification is required by the end of new hire orientation.
