Senior Research Accounting Specialist

Position Overview
The role involves providing essential assistance in the daily operations of post-award research administration within the Research Finance department. This includes managing the financial aspects of awarded projects, ensuring accurate financial reporting to both internal and external stakeholders, and collaborating closely with Grants and Contract personnel to support principal investigators while adhering to regulatory and policy standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitates post-award activities, including the review of financial reports, cost transfers, requisitions, salary allocations, and budget tracking.
- Manages post-award data and oversees sub-recipient monitoring procedures, while following up on outstanding receivables.
- Participates in study meetings to stay informed and engaged.
- Prepares and submits monthly invoices and sponsor billings, along with cash draws from the Payment Management System and applicable deposit applications.
- Generates and distributes internal monthly financial reports to relevant stakeholders.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships based on trust and integrity with grant personnel, Research Operations Managers/Directors, and Principal Investigators.
- Engages positively with federal grant agencies and other funding organizations.
- Compiles annual financial reports and assists in the annual audit process.
- Contributes to the evaluation, implementation, and maintenance of grant accounting software and Clinical Trials Management Systems.
- Sets up research projects within the designated research systems and the enterprise accounting software.
- Collaborates with ancillary departments to confirm billing decisions for services rendered to research participants.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred, or an Associate's degree with three years of pertinent finance or accounting experience in a related environment; equivalent education and experience will also be considered. Experience in healthcare is advantageous, particularly with an understanding of research finance.
Candidates must possess a solid foundation in accounting and finance principles, with a keen attention to detail. Proficiency in business software applications is required. The ideal candidate should be organized, self-driven, and capable of working independently to identify and resolve issues, while also functioning effectively as part of a team. The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines is essential.
