This role involves independently conducting a range of diagnostic tests within the Clinical Laboratory to generate critical data for disease diagnosis and treatment. Responsibilities include performing venipunctures and capillary draws on inpatients, emergency room patients, and outpatients as required.

This is a full-time position, offering 40 hours per week, with evening shifts from 3:30 PM to 12:00 AM. Evening shifts receive a 10% differential. Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics is providing an $8000 sign-on/retention bonus for this role. *Applicable to external candidates only, with certain conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Exhibit the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to conduct various laboratory tests promptly, ensuring accurate and precise results with minimal error rates.
  2. Effectively troubleshoot and resolve issues, ensuring patient results are not reported until all systems are functioning correctly. Communicate resolutions and next steps clearly.
  3. Demonstrate solid knowledge and skills to perform job functions within the clinical laboratory.
  4. Conduct and assess quality control and instrument functionality checks, utilizing established quality control practices to evaluate test system performance. Identify and address QC issues promptly.
  5. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment in accordance with established procedures and manufacturer recommendations, including inventory management. Identify and rectify sample, instrument, or procedural issues as necessary.
  6. Provide training and orientation for new laboratory personnel. Educate bench staff on new procedures or systems, and mentor MLS or MLT/CLT students in laboratory techniques and advanced skills.
  7. Actively engage in the continuing education program of the D-HH member's laboratory.
  8. Adhere to all hospital safety protocols and demonstrate knowledge of safety requirements.
  9. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree with a minimum of four years of Clinical Laboratory experience, or a Bachelor of Science degree with at least two years of Clinical Laboratory experience.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant technical experience is required.
  • Ability to work autonomously, meet deadlines, and manage fluctuating workloads. Basic proficiency in computer software systems is essential.

Licensure/Certifications Required

  • Nationally recognized certification is required within one year of hire.
  • ASCP certification is preferred.
  • Current BLS certification is required within 30 days of hire for CLS employees at Community Group Practice laboratory locations.
