Faculty Job Description:

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is seeking applications for a full-time Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor position in Equine Veterinary Services within the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences.

The successful applicant will collaborate with our current equine ambulatory veterinarians to elevate the regional reputation of the Equine Veterinary Services program through clinical practice, education, and research.

The primary responsibilities of this role will focus on professional ambulatory clinical practice based at the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC), a cutting-edge teaching hospital dedicated to providing specialized care for both companion and large animals.

This position involves training veterinary students and house officers (interns/residents) within our large animal rotating internship or approved residency programs.

A commitment to a customer-centered service approach and fostering a collaborative work environment is essential.

As part of the general practice of equine ambulatory veterinary medicine, the successful candidate is expected to develop their expertise and caseload in a specific area of equine veterinary medicine.

Engagement in didactic and laboratory instruction, independent or collaborative scholarly activities, and academic service are also anticipated.

The extent of research and other responsibilities will align with the experience, rank, interests, and Position Responsibility Statement (PRS) of the successful candidate.

The level of after-hours ambulatory on-call responsibilities for Equine Veterinary Services is negotiable and can be discussed with the department chair.

Required Minimum Qualifications :
DVM or equivalent degree

State of Iowa Veterinary License on or before the first day of employment

At least 1 year of experience in equine veterinary practice

Preferred Qualifications :
Experience in equine ambulatory veterinary practice

Experience in teaching veterinary students in both didactic and clinical settings

Experience in training house officers (interns/residents)

Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (equine) or other equine specialty

Experience in a specific focus area within equine veterinary medicine

Federal accreditation through the national veterinary accreditation program

The LVMC is a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide specialized care and comprehensive medical and surgical services for both companion and large animals.

Our team, including clinicians, residents, interns, technicians, staff, and senior veterinary students, collaborates to deliver 24-hour, high-quality care to animal patients.

Equine Veterinary Services is equipped with an ambulatory veterinary truck, radiograph unit, dental equipment, ultrasonography unit, and endoscopic unit.

Additionally, the Equine Veterinary Services can schedule appointments at the LVMC and utilize the facility.
The Veterinary Clinical Sciences department offers competitive salary and benefits packages for new faculty.
