Position Overview

The Electrical Protection Systems Engineer will take charge of the design, development, and upkeep of protection and control systems for electric power infrastructures, particularly focusing on substation protection systems. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of components integral to protection and control systems, such as relays, circuit breakers, transformers, and instrument transformers.

This role involves analyzing and assessing protection systems to ensure adherence to industry standards while enhancing system reliability. We seek an individual who is eager to lead and collaborate with PES Engineering Management to expand the protection and control capabilities within our engineering department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement protection and control systems for electrical distribution networks.
  • Conduct engineering studies to establish optimal settings and configurations for protective devices, ensuring system stability and reliability.
  • Perform fault analysis and protection coordination studies to identify and rectify system vulnerabilities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards governing protection and control systems.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee junior engineers and technicians in the design, installation, and maintenance of protection and control systems.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong understanding of protection and control system components, including relays, circuit breakers, transformers, and instrument transformers.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations pertaining to protection and control systems, such as IEEE and NERC standards.
  • Experience with SCADA systems and relevant software.
  • Proficient in Allen-Bradley PLC Programmable Controller products and software.
  • Knowledgeable in common system analysis and control software, including SEL AcSELerator QuickSet, Digital Substation Integration (DIGSI), and GE Multilin EnerVista Software Suite.
  • Competent in performing Short-Circuit, Coordination, and Arcflash studies using analysis software such as ETAP and SKM.
