About this Role

As a Relay Technician at Power Engineering Services, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of relay protection systems in electrical substations. Working closely with engineers and other technicians, you will ensure the reliable operation of electrical equipment and systems to maintain safety and minimize downtime. You'll also be supporting our substation crew and BESS commissioning.

What You'll Do

Assist with performing and completing documentation required for testing equipment on the substation protection system. Protection system components include, but are not limited to, potential transformers, current transformers, DC control circuits, AC control circuits, substation batteries, circuit breaker components, protective relays, and communication systems (RTU) Assist with calibration and performance functional testing on microprocessor and electromechanical type relays in accordance with the manufacture specifications. Assist in the installation, maintenance, analyzation, and troubleshooting of remote terminal units (RTU’s), network port switches, SCADA equipment, substation battery systems, transformer control circuits, voltage regulation relays and controls, breaker control circuits, and protective relays. Consult instruction manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams in order to commission, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment issues and ensure optimum equipment functionality. Work with electrical engineers to identify, troubleshoot and resolve issues. Perform function testing of substation control circuits on relay panel, transformers & circuit breaker changeouts. Perform end-to-end relay testing using Doble ProTesT software to verify carrier and fiber systems. Assist in developing written standard commissioning, test plans, testing and maintenance procedures for protective relaying, DFR's, RTU's, IED's, Distribution Automation and associated communication systems.

What You'll Bring

High school graduate or GED equivalent Advanced technology degree, preferred At least 5 years of high-voltage testing, either relay or apparatus NETA 3 or 4 Certificationor the ability to become licensed upon hire Must complete a satisfactory criminal background check. Must be available to work regular overtime as needed. Must have a valid driver’s license, and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record. Proficient in computer software: Microsoft Windows 10, Office 365, Cascade, Powerbase, RTS, SEL AcSELerator Quickset and RTAC. Detailed knowledge of substation protection zones and relay functionality. Proficient in reading and utilizing DC control circuitry drawings, AC three-line drawings, panel wiring diagrams, equipment drawings and all other drawings associated with the protection of substation equipment. Must be able to travel 75% of the time.

Physical Effort

Must be able to lift 75 lbs. from ground to height of 30 inches and 60lbs from waist level to chest on regular basis. Typical equipment/materials that must be lifted includes but is not limited to tools, materials, parts, relays, and test equipment. Able to climb up and down stairs and vertical and inclined ladders unassisted daily; Perform hand manipulations extended near floor level for extended periods of time on a routine basis.
