Job Summary

The Ann Arbor YMCA Child Development Center is seeking a highly motivated and experienced School Age Child Care Lead Teacher to join our team. As a key member of our after-school program, you will be responsible for supervising the daily operations of the 400 W Washington After School program, developing engaging activities for children aged 4-12, and ensuring the safety and well-being of our participants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Supervision: Provide positive guidance techniques to promote a safe and inclusive environment for all children.
  • Check-in/Check-out Procedures: Oversee the efficient and secure check-in and check-out process for children.
  • Customer Service: Serve as the first point of contact for customer service issues and provide prompt resolutions.
  • Program Development: Design and implement engaging activities that cater to the developmental needs of children in physical, social, emotional, and intellectual areas.
  • Snack Preparation: Prepare and serve snacks according to the snack calendar created by the Directors.
  • Transportation: Provide transportation for participants using YMCA buses, requiring a valid Chauffeur's License.
  • Classroom Ratio: Ensure adherence to State of Michigan licensing and Michigan Healthy Out of School Time standards for classroom ratios.
  • Child Abuse and Neglect: Possess knowledge of child abuse and neglect laws and proper reporting procedures.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate and model expectations to all youth and staff.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent; some college preferred.
  • Experience: At least one year's experience working with children, such as day care or babysitting; teaching experience preferred.
  • License: Must have a valid Chauffeur's License or obtain it before the first day of the after-school program.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, flexibility, and ability to work in a team setting.
  • Certifications: Must have certification in infant, child, and adult CPR and First Aid or obtain within the first 30 days.
  • Attitude: Patient, high-energy, and goal-oriented attitude essential.
  • Responsiveness: Ability to be responsive to the needs, wants, and interests of both parents and youth enrolled in the program.
Working Conditions
  • Physical Demands: Ability to walk, stand, and sit for long periods, assist children up to 50 pounds, and lift/carry food and supplies up to 20 pounds.
  • Visual and Auditory Abilities: Ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
