Job Summary

The Ann Arbor YMCA is seeking a highly motivated and experienced School Age Child Care Lead Teacher to oversee the daily operations of our 400 W Washington After School program. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing engaging programs and activities that cater to children aged 4-12 years.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage the day-to-day operations of the After School program, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for children.
  • Develop and implement program activities that promote physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development in children.
  • Provide positive guidance techniques and oversee check-in/check-out procedures.
  • Handle customer service issues and respond to parent inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Prepare and serve snacks according to the snack calendar.
  • Provide transportation for participants using YMCA buses.
  • Ensure classroom ratio is maintained in accordance with State of Michigan licensing and Michigan Healthy Out of School Time standards.
  • Communicate and maintain expectations with all youth and staff.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent; some college preferred.
  • At least one year's experience working with children, such as day care or babysitting required; teaching experience preferred.
  • Must have Chauffeur's License or obtain it before the first day of the after-school program.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, flexibility, and ability to work in a team setting required.
  • Must have certification in infant, child and adult CPR and First Aid or obtain within 30 days.
  • An interest and ability in developing and implementing creative programming with the goal of teaching YMCA core values necessary.
  • A patient, high-energy, and goal-oriented attitude essential.
  • Ability to be responsive to the needs, wants, and interests of both parents and youth enrolled in the program.
Working Conditions
  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to assist an average size child up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
Salary

$15.50-$17.00 per hour
