Position Overview

The Junior Civil Engineer will collaborate with a licensed professional engineer to support project teams in developing exceptional designs for various initiatives, including new constructions, modifications, and redevelopment projects. This role involves working closely with the project team throughout the design and construction phases, making adjustments to civil plans based on budgetary limits, design considerations, or client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Project assignments may encompass site development for a diverse array of military facilities and/or the design of airfield infrastructure projects, such as runways, taxiways, and aprons for military, commercial, or municipal clients. Specific duties may include:

  • Master planning and designing airport facilities and federal installations.
  • Creating comprehensive designs for site development and associated infrastructure, including airfield layout, facility orientation, vehicular and pedestrian access, and stormwater management.
  • Maintaining technical expertise in design, construction, and evaluation of both flexible and rigid pavement.
  • Designing utility systems to support federal, aviation, and fuel system facilities.
  • Overseeing the construction of airfield pavements and other airport enhancement projects.
  • Assisting with additional projects as directed by management.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor of Science in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • A Master of Science degree in Engineering may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Completion of the FE or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) exam is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred.
  • Previous internship or relevant consulting experience is advantageous.
  • Active involvement in campus or community activities.
  • Fundamental knowledge of standard civil engineering techniques, principles, and procedures.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment, demonstrating critical thinking abilities.
  • Proficient in computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Basic proficiency in civil engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD).
  • Strong attention to detail, teamwork, collaboration, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
