About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Program Manager to join our team at American Express. As a Technical Program Manager, you will be responsible for driving the delivery of medium-to-high complexity programs across technical, regulatory, and strategic business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive execution on defined, program-level goals for medium-to-high complexity programs.
  • Work within and across teams to anticipate, track, and resolve risks, dependencies, and impediments for delivery.
  • Steer technical program conversations and articulate solutions, co-developing and documenting solution.
  • Participate with product and engineering leaders to build implementation roadmaps.
  • Provide and consolidate inputs for leadership updates, driving meetings with leadership on delivery status and key decisions needed to support project delivery.
  • Identify and take the lead to drive forward opportunities for improvements to the delivery process, working with relevant teams to redesign process flows.
  • Mentor, guide, and support Technical Project Managers as well as other team members as appropriate.
  • Track and interpret relevant objectives and key results/key performance indicators, identifying key insights and next steps.
  • Participate in PI planning meetings and other Agile ceremonies across teams.
  • Provide input into prioritization discussions and pressure test plans for feasibility, capacity, and risk.
  • Drive cohesiveness across teams, ensuring teamwork and alignment between Product Owners, Architects, and Engineers to meet the respective requirements.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with SDLC standards.
  • Facilitate and plan development change and release management activities.
  • Identify and address complex inter-team dependencies, bridging gaps within technology management.
  • Follow and instill documentation standard processes to ensure designs meet requirements.
  • Keen understanding of regulatory standards driving consistency within technology and across workstreams.

Requirements

  • Sufficient knowledge of technology to understand and discuss challenges and systems design.
  • Independently motivated to learn new skills quickly.
  • Understanding of major coding languages to assist in tracking against delivery challenges and to support solutioning.
  • Experience writing technical documentation.
  • Ability to lead multi-functional projects.
  • Adept in organizational, product, and industry standard metrics. Ability to use metrics to diagnose opportunity areas and improve delivery.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams; build and draw upon strong working relationships to bring different opinions to consensus.
  • Understanding of the full life cycle of product development, from concept to delivery, including Test Driven Development (TDD).
  • Handle the post-production processes, drive quality, and implement testing standard practices.
  • Problem solving and issue-resolution abilities; Independently defines problems and identifies solutions in the face of ambiguity.
  • Ability to maintain a high attention to detail in a date-oriented work environment.
  • Experience in how interconnections play a key role in various business priorities.
  • Proven knowledge of project management process, project management software tools, templates, and management techniques.
  • Strong ability to handle change in a multi-layered environment and influence others without direct authority.
  • Ability to work through and directly deal with difference of opinion.
  • Independently drives work, with some supervision, guidance, and coaching from line manager and senior members of Engineering and Product team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in technical field or equivalent work experience required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Project Management Certification is preferred.
  • 3 years in program delivery and project management experience with a consistent record of growing responsibility.
  • Experience with Agile/SAFe/Lean methodologies a plus.
  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated experience engaging and influencing multi-functional partners and senior leaders.
