We are currently seeking an Engineering Lead to join our team in a hybrid capacity. This role demands a strong foundation in mechanical engineering, particularly in fluid dynamics and hydraulics, coupled with manufacturing expertise in areas such as castings, machining, and injection molding. Familiarity with electronics and sensor integration is also essential. The selected candidate will be responsible for conducting engineering analyses, prototyping, and experiments to facilitate new product development and production, while upholding stringent quality standards. The role involves utilizing and promoting best practices, including DFMEA, GD&T, FEA, and mold flow analysis. Additionally, the Engineering Lead will develop specifications and proposals, and coordinate efforts among internal engineering teams and external design partners to drive critical projects that contribute to Sloan's ongoing growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Explore and assess new technologies for potential application in future products.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with various organizational levels, both verbally and in writing.
  • Coordinate engineering initiatives with partners and design sites.
  • Engage in establishing design standards throughout the organization.
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation for designs, including drawings, inspection criteria, calibration procedures, engineering reports, and work instructions.
  • Plan and execute component and system-level experiments to validate engineering designs against product requirements.
  • Design innovative R&D tests.
  • Analyze and resolve design challenges and quality concerns through a solid understanding of engineering principles, utilizing methodologies such as FEA, CFD, tolerance analysis, and statistical methods.
  • Collaborate in the design of new products within a team-oriented, stage-gate development framework alongside the PMO.
  • Document and design components and complex assemblies, including engineering specifications and material requirements. Process Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).
  • Adhere to established document control protocols.
  • Lead and supervise other engineers on significant development projects, assigning tasks and monitoring progress.
  • Mentor junior engineers in processes and problem-solving techniques.
  • May have direct managerial responsibilities for a small team of engineers.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in directing engineers within a project setting.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in designing electro-mechanical products and systems compliant with agency standards.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proven ability to utilize statistics to inform engineering decisions.
  • Proficiency in CREO, Geometric Design & Tolerance methodology, Finite Element Analysis, mold flow analysis, and Design for Manufacturing concepts.
  • Understanding of verification and validation concepts in design.
  • Experience in designing machined, cast, and injection molded components.
  • Familiarity with various materials, including brass, ceramics, and plastics.
  • Strong analytical skills in hydraulics, fluid dynamics, mechanisms, and tolerance analysis.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
  • Experience in developing plumbing, valve, or water handling products, or other commercial building products.
  • Experience in designing environmentally friendly products.
  • Fluid dynamics simulation experience is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical analysis and Six Sigma principles.
