GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Texas Department of Public Safety is seeking a highly skilled individual to perform advanced architectural duties. This role encompasses Schematic Design, spatial organization, budget assessment, overseeing renovation and construction projects, and supervising a team of professionals engaged in similar tasks. The successful candidate will monitor project timelines, budgets, and schedules while effectively communicating with stakeholders and generating reports. This position operates with minimal oversight, allowing for significant initiative and independent decision-making.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develop schematic designs and allocate space for renovation and construction projects, including the preparation of REVIT drawings and cost assessments, while transitioning projects to project managers for contract execution.

2. Coordinate architectural design and construction efforts across departments, reviewing plans submitted by other architects.

3. Supervise staff engaged in design and management of renovation and construction projects, ensuring effective task assignment and project completion.

4. Track project progress, budgets, and schedules diligently.

5. Generate comprehensive reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually) to inform project stakeholders.

6. Oversee the formulation of guidelines, procedures, policies, and regulations, ensuring adherence to established standards.

7. Manage program analyses and prepare management and productivity reports as well as research studies.

8. Direct activities related to construction, leasing, space planning, maintenance, operations, repairs, renovations, and remodeling of facilities, ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines and codes.

9. Establish agency space management guidelines and standards; prepare requests for proposals, specialized space requirements, and develop floor plans and schematics, acting as a liaison and project manager for internal clients.

10. Represent the department in meetings and training sessions.

11. Contribute to planning and provide feedback on staff performance and assignments.

12. Assist in the recruitment, training, and performance monitoring of assigned staff.

13. Maintain regular attendance and adhere to approved work hours in accordance with agency policies.

14. Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: A degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a focus in Architecture.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years of full-time experience in architectural or engineering roles, particularly in commercial construction and renovation. At least 2 years of supervisory experience is required.

Licensure: Must be a registered Architect with the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners. A valid driver’s license from the state of residence is required if driving is necessary.

Knowledge: Familiarity with TXDPS, state and federal regulations, and relevant policies is essential.

Leadership Skills: Strong understanding of management principles, performance standards, and budget management is required. The ability to develop effective plans and motivate teams is crucial.

Technical Proficiency: Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and have a working knowledge of relevant software systems (e.g., CAPPS, SharePoint, REVIT) with the capacity to learn new technologies.

Interpersonal Skills: The candidate must demonstrate professionalism, tact, and the ability to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Organizational Skills: Must exhibit strong organizational abilities, flexibility, and the capacity to prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.

Communication Skills: The ability to deliver clear and professional presentations and communications to diverse audiences is essential.

Analytical Skills: Must possess strong analytical reasoning and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret data and identify trends.

Confidentiality: Must handle sensitive information responsibly and adhere to relevant laws and policies.

Safety Awareness: The candidate must prioritize safety and comply with established safety standards.

Work Schedule: Availability for non-standard hours, including weekends and travel across the state, is required.
