The Utilities & Central Energy (UCE) division specializes in extensive central plant operations, particularly in district energy systems serving municipalities, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and manufacturing sites. Our expertise encompasses energy production and distribution, sustainable energy generation, combined heat and power systems, industrial HVAC, and medium voltage power systems. Our clients rely on us to lead intricate projects from inception to completion, including startup, testing, and commissioning.

Position Responsibilities:

The Intermediate Mechanical Engineer is crucial for the effective execution of projects. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, this role demands technical and engineering excellence, ensuring the successful delivery of services to our clients. The Intermediate Mechanical Engineer is tasked with maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction by clearly communicating and managing expectations, both externally and internally. The ideal candidate will contribute to a dynamic team atmosphere by being proactive, maintaining clear and frequent communication, and fostering a highly collaborative work environment. Additionally, this individual will actively support business development initiatives through proposal writing and engaging with prospective and existing clients.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Draft engineering documents and equipment specifications to align with the contracted scope of work and ensure compliance with relevant codes.
  • Conduct engineering calculations.
  • Develop estimates for assigned tasks and ensure adherence to project scope.
  • Provide technical and engineering assistance to other departments and disciplines.
  • Approve final selections of utilities systems and equipment, as well as drawing submissions.
  • Lead procurement efforts for utilities systems and equipment.
  • Manage assigned projects, ensuring timely completion.
  • Contribute to the business development process through proposal input and presentations to potential clients.
  • Represent KFI at industry conferences, customer events, and through participation in professional associations.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Basic understanding of Architectural, Electrical, Civil, and Structural Engineering practices.
  • Proficiency in computer technology and relevant applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with Designers, Engineers, and Project Managers.
  • A practical and applied approach while encouraging creative problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Confidence and maturity to engage with colleagues and clients.
  • Ability to synthesize diverse ideas and programs into actionable recommendations.
  • Effective meeting management capabilities.
  • Strong writing skills with experience in generating technical reports.
  • Demonstrated expertise in utilities generation and distribution systems design.
  • Ability to build rapport and credibility with clients and stakeholders.
  • Professional representation of the company.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Competence in MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Willingness to travel domestically, potentially up to 25% of the time.

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification or a commitment to pursue certification.
  • Significant experience in infrastructure projects and/or plant operations is preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Some work environments may involve challenging terrain typical of construction sites or require the lifting and movement of field testing equipment.
