Position Overview

The Railroad Commission of Texas, a leading regulatory body in the oil and gas sector, is seeking a proficient Administrative Assistant to provide comprehensive administrative support for the Field Operations Section of the Oil and Gas Division. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of our initiatives, particularly those funded through federal grants aimed at environmental remediation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct operator and wellbore investigations utilizing Commission data systems.
  • Draft, revise, and disseminate correspondence, forms, and official documents.
  • Assist in the management and upkeep of publications, files, and records related to State Managed Plugging (SMP) and Cleanup (SMCU) programs.
  • Facilitate the processing of SMP and SMCU recommendations and invoices.
  • Address inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders regarding SMP and SMCU matters.
  • Perform additional related tasks to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Engage in other assigned duties as necessary.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • Completion of a standard senior high school education or equivalent.
  • Preferred experience in administrative support roles.
  • Experience and education may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one year of experience in business office practices and communication of policies and procedures.
  • Experience in drafting business documents with a strong command of grammar and comprehension skills.
  • Familiarity with maintaining both physical and digital records, as well as organizing filing systems.
  • Knowledge of oil and gas operations and understanding of relevant regulations.
Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in basic mathematics.
  • Familiarity with telephone switchboard operations.
  • Understanding of professional etiquette.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on providing accurate information.
  • Competent in operating standard office equipment.
  • Ability to organize and manage information effectively.
  • Capable of accurately filing, retrieving, and managing documents.
  • Proficient in using computers, including Word, Excel, email, and databases.
  • Able to follow concise oral and written instructions.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Consistent punctuality and attendance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Exhibit tact and courtesy in all interactions.
  • Physical capability to manage filing systems and lift items up to 30 lbs.
  • Possess a valid Texas Driver's license with a good driving record.
Work Environment

Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flexible work schedules and telework options may be available based on operational needs. Further details regarding work arrangements can be discussed during the interview process.
