POSITION SUMMARY

The Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) operates under direct to general supervision within the Community Living Program, delivering essential peer support services. The RSS acts as an advocate and provides vital information and support to individuals seeking recovery. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities aimed at empowering individuals to regain control over their lives and their recovery journeys. The RSS is expected to uphold a high standard of professionalism, ethics, and collaboration with all stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Comply with agency policies and procedures, as well as CARF and DMHSAS standards, ensuring adherence to federal and state confidentiality regulations.
  • Foster a recovery-oriented service environment that is welcoming and sensitive to the needs of individuals who may have faced trauma.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with supervisors and colleagues, demonstrating effective teamwork.
  • Monitor client eligibility and assist in applications for Social Security, Medicaid, and other relevant benefits.
  • Utilize expertise to mentor individuals on the importance of their recovery experiences, modeling effective coping strategies and self-help techniques.
  • Establish rapport with clients, assess their needs, and deliver personalized face-to-face services while following up on service outcomes.
  • Advocate for recovery-oriented services tailored to individual needs.
  • Inform clients about community resources and natural supports that can aid in their recovery.
  • Assist in the referral process to meet individual client needs.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding consumer and family information.
  • Provide a minimum of 85 hours of billable services to clients each month.
  • Employ the philosophy of Collaborative/Therapeutic Documentation to ensure clinical records are maintained accurately and timely.
  • Seek supervisory guidance for additional training and skill enhancement as necessary.
  • Engage with other professionals to discuss treatment options, resources, and share valuable information.
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting and maintain up-to-date records as required by the accounting department.
  • Document services in compliance with agency policies, ensuring all documentation is completed promptly.
  • Be available for evening or weekend hours as needed.
  • Provide services in community settings when required.
  • Transport clients using personal or agency vehicles as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A High School diploma or GED is required, along with a demonstrated history of recovery from mental illness, substance use disorders, or both.
