POSITION TITLE: HCNJ Peer Recovery Specialist

ROLE SUMMARY: The HCNJ Peer Recovery Specialist will collaborate closely with Case Managers at the Rutgers Infectious Disease Clinic. This position is primarily community-focused, requiring engagement with participants in various local settings beyond the clinic.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with individuals to create a personalized Recovery Plan that incorporates culturally relevant services, identifies measurable goals, assesses strengths, and addresses potential barriers to success.
  • Educate clients on navigating treatment, social services, and recovery support systems effectively.
  • Deliver recovery support services tailored to individual preferences and assessed needs.
  • Encourage individuals through the stages of change, fostering their recovery journey.
  • Assist clients in accessing community-based recovery support services.
  • Work in partnership with case managers to ensure ongoing engagement in services.
  • Serve as a positive role model by sharing personal experiences, hope, and skills.
  • Maintain supportive relationships with individuals to aid in treatment engagement and retention.
  • Reinforce the belief that recovery is achievable, built on individual strengths and coping strategies.
  • Support participants in developing skills and resources necessary for sustained recovery.
  • Promote a supportive social and physical environment conducive to recovery.
  • Encourage participation in the recovery community.
  • Advocate for effective community treatment and recovery options.
  • Empower individuals to make informed, self-directed choices regarding their recovery paths.
  • Facilitate community-based Mutual Aid meetings for clients.
  • Provide ongoing support through face-to-face and telephone interactions, ensuring regular follow-ups.
  • Attend required training sessions and work towards obtaining CPRS peer certification.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Availability for on-call support outside of regular hours.
  • Flexibility to perform duties in various locations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Sensitivity and responsiveness to diverse backgrounds and needs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer skills.
  • Willingness to attend evening and weekend meetings as necessary.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong time management skills to handle multiple priorities.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. and New Jersey.
  • Commitment to representing Prevention Links with excellence and collaboration.
  • Understanding of all programs and projects offered by Prevention Links.
  • Adherence to administrative guidelines for accurate documentation.
  • Participation in all required training sessions.
  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Physical ability to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Possession of a valid New Jersey Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Completion of additional tasks as assigned by the Peer Supervisor or Recovery Support Director.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of an associate's degree is preferred; a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Candidates should have at least two years of experience in recovery principles that promote health, wellness, and self-directed living.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Some domestic travel may be necessary for this full-time role, with local travel being essential.

AVAILABILITY: Evening and weekend availability is required.
