POSITION SUMMARY
The Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) operates under direct to general supervision within the Community Living Program, delivering essential peer support services. This role serves as an advocate and provides vital information and support to individuals in recovery. The RSS engages in a variety of activities aimed at empowering clients to reclaim control over their lives and recovery journeys. The position demands a high standard of professionalism, ethical conduct, and effective interactions with all stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Comply with agency policies and procedures, as well as CARF and DMHSAS standards, ensuring adherence to federal and state confidentiality regulations.
- Foster a supportive and recovery-oriented environment for individuals seeking behavioral health and co-occurring services, particularly those who have faced trauma.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with supervisors and colleagues, demonstrating effective teamwork.
- Assist eligible clients in navigating benefits applications, including Social Security and Medicaid.
- Utilize personal experiences to mentor clients on the importance of their recovery journeys, modeling coping strategies and self-help techniques.
- Conduct assessments to identify client needs, organize and deliver direct services, and follow up on service outcomes.
- Advocate for and provide recovery-oriented services tailored to individual client needs.
- Inform clients about community resources and supports to aid in their recovery process.
- Facilitate referrals based on individual client requirements.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding client and family information.
- Provide a minimum of 85 hours of billable services to clients each month.
- Employ Collaborative/Therapeutic Documentation practices to meet clinical record-keeping standards, ensuring timely completion of documentation.
- Seek supervisory guidance for additional training and skill enhancement as necessary.
- Engage with other professionals to discuss treatment strategies, new resources, and share valuable information.
- Ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with agency policies.
- Document services in accordance with agency standards, ensuring timely completion of records.
- Be flexible with work hours, including evenings or weekends, and provide services in community settings as needed.
- May require transportation of clients using personal or agency vehicles.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Demonstrated recovery from mental illness, substance use disorder, or both.
