CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) provides comprehensive medical care to a diverse patient population. The CNS independently assesses and treats patients while collaborating with other healthcare professionals. Ensures effective management of illnesses and injuries, along with disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. May prescribe medications and request diagnostic evaluations. Guides patients regarding ongoing care.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Conducts and documents thorough physical assessments and detailed health histories.
  • Operates autonomously to perform age-appropriate assessments for patients.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests based on the patient's age-specific requirements.
  • Prescribes suitable pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment options.
  • Implements strategies to assist patients in achieving or maintaining physiological stability.
  • Supports the delivery of care in compliance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of care interventions.
  • Facilitates patient transitions within and between healthcare environments, including admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.
  • Enhances decision-making for staff, patients, and families by providing educational resources.
  • Adheres to organizational and departmental policies and procedures, safeguarding institutional assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Master's degree in a relevant field is required.

Certification and Licensing:
Valid State of Florida CNS License

Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in critical decision-making.
  • Skill in completing tasks accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work effectively under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and/or collaboratively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.

Department Specific Functions

JOB SUMMARY:

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) - Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) serves as an educator, advocate, and care provider, responsible for the care and well-being of patients undergoing perioperative assessments and medical clearance.


SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Conduct comprehensive histories and physicals for patients scheduled for elective surgeries.
  • Optimize management of comorbidities for patients undergoing elective procedures.
  • Perform risk assessments for patients preparing for elective surgeries.
  • Order and interpret EKGs, laboratory tests, imaging, and various cardiac diagnostic evaluations.
  • Ensure accurate medication reconciliations and manage perioperative medications.
  • Consult with various specialties as necessary (Anesthesia, Surgery, Internal Medicine).
  • Refer patients to appropriate specialties for further preoperative evaluation and optimization.
