CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program, with a Bachelor's degree (BSN) preferred. RNs with an Associate's degree (ASN) must complete the BSN within two years of hire.
Certification and Licensing:
- Valid Registered Nurse License in Florida, along with ACLS and BLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
- ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy provider card preferred, or to be obtained within six months of hire.
Experience:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing school.
- Minimum of two years of RN experience, with a preference for Med Surg, Tele, Surgical Oncology, or ENT experience.
- CITI certification required within three months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- Understanding of nursing care methodologies and procedures.
- Comprehensive knowledge of health and safety protocols (e.g., sanitation, decontamination).
- Excellent patient interaction skills.
- Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve various issues.
- Capacity to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
- Proficient in both oral and written communication.
- Completes the required orientation for Transplant Cellular Therapy.
- Employs effective communication skills during interactions with patients, caregivers, and team members to identify potential barriers to care.
- Provides holistic nursing care addressing the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and their families throughout their healthcare journey.

- Facilitates patient and caregiver education with interdisciplinary team involvement.
- Demonstrates knowledge of commonly used medications, including their actions, dosages, and side effects.
- Follows standards for administering high-alert medications, such as chemotherapy, in accordance with organizational policies and ONS standards.
- Applies evidence-based clinical guidelines and symptom management tools in patient evaluation and care.
- Assists in procedures and emergency management as needed.
- Administers research study agents, standard chemotherapy, immunotherapy agents, and stem cell products.
- Serves as a resource for clinical staff regarding unfamiliar procedures and treatments.
- Administers and monitors blood products in accordance with hospital policies.
- Autonomously administers electrolyte replacements as per pharmacy guidelines.
- Maintains documentation standards for patient education.
- Demonstrates evidence-based care in managing venous access devices used in oncology patients.
- Stays informed about new therapies and treatment technologies through independent learning and mandatory training sessions.
- Engages in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in oncology nursing, including pursuing national oncology and/or bone marrow transplant certification when eligible.
- Actively participates in performance improvement initiatives within the unit. Assumes a preceptor role after completing the necessary training.
- Cross-trains in other nursing units and provides support as needed.
