The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) provides comprehensive medical care to a diverse patient population. The CNS operates independently and collaborates with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal care delivery. Responsibilities include proper management of illnesses and injuries, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. The CNS may prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests, while also advising patients on ongoing care.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Conducting thorough physical examinations and comprehensive health histories.
  • Functioning independently to perform age-appropriate assessments for patients.
  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostic and therapeutic tests based on the patient's age-specific needs.
  • Prescribing appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment options.
  • Implementing interventions to support patients in regaining or maintaining physiological stability.
  • Assisting with care provision in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Facilitating patient transitions within and between healthcare settings, including admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary team members and making appropriate referrals.
  • Providing educational tools to facilitate decision-making for staff, patients, and families.

Adhering to organizational policies and procedures while safeguarding institutional assets is essential.


CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Master's degree in Nursing

Certification and Licensing:
Valid State of Florida CNS License

Acute Care Certification Required

Experience:
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

Neurosurgery experience preferred
